Female Urological Care
Urology is often considered a branch of medicine that focuses exclusively on men, much like obstetrics/gynecology concerns medical issues for women. However, women also possess organs that are affected by urological conditions, such as, the kidney, ureters (tubes that drain the kidneys), bladder, and urethra (tube that drains the urine). Indeed, women develop abnormalities in these organs that require attention from a urological surgeon. Further, there are even subspecialties in urology that are devoted to treating conditions experienced more commonly by women and adolescent females than men. Some of these conditions include urinary tract infections, kidney infections (pyelonephritis), overactive bladder, urinary incontinence, and female sexual dysfunction.
Dr. Cathy Naughton is one of a few board-certified female urologists in the greater metropolitan St. Louis area. She provides general urologic surgical care for patients and has experience in the management and treatment of urological conditions that specifically impact women.

Typically, there is minimal discomfort following the surgery. Most patients require only non-narcotic pain medication after the procedure.
Most men require 5-10 days off work after the procedure.
It is important to choose a urologist who has completed additional fellowship training and has expertise in microsurgery.
